Panama!
Panama-oh-oh-oh-oh. 99 percent of the reason I joined twitter was to follow Japanese astronaut Soichi Noguchi. His daily photos (many on request from followers) and humble musings on life in space are worth the never-ending stream of commentary I receive from Ebert.
Today I was rather excited to find Soichi-san’s been flying over my dear Panama.

Beware the great wall rollercoaster

My friend, Chris, is ABC. That’s Australian-born Chinese. He once visited the Great Wall and said should I ever go, I must find a good taxi driver, have him take me to the most remote spot he knows, and pay him to wait while I roam free on the Wall.
Despite his advice, when I finally found my way en route to the Great Wall, it was crammed in a modern minivan with a Balinese-Jewish family, headed for possibly the most touristic spot in China. The shops at the base knew their target market – they sold brightly coloured hats, slip-on shoes, film, batteries, even the mysterious belly wash.

Oh Japan, my second former home, how much do I miss thee?
I miss your food, your effortless efficiency, your whimsical wabisabi way with everything.
For now though, I’m here in London. And much like I was at 16 when I created a little ‘zine inspired by those wonderful men in their flower-pot hats, I’m through being cool.

And hopefully, so will you be, lest we all end up as fauxhemians or whatever the hell we’re supposed to be calling them now.
